 Dating Site Review: Yahoo! Personals
Yahoo! Personals is one of the best online dating sites out there. It is one of the larger dating sites and has a strong membership in both North America and Europe. Here are some pros and cons of the site:
Pros- At $24.95 a month, this is one of the cheapest dating sites online. However, don't think that a cheap subscription entails a sub-par product.
- You can easily cancel your membership online. It's nice not having to call customer service and deal with a runaround before getting out of your commitment.
- Users have the option to browse other's profiles invisibly, or have it be known which profiles they have visited. I like to let it be known that I looked at their profile. Sometimes they will initiate contact after they've seen I checked out their profile.
- They have a neat feature that let’s you upload a video or a snippet of your voice to your profile. I personally would avoid using these features. Good for smooth operators, death for tools.
- They have a flirt option for you cowards who aren’t man enough to write a witty email. This is a good feature for the women, but I don’t recommend it for the men. See my article on online dating tips.
- It's not a surprise that the Yahoo! servers are blazingly fast. Pictures and profiles load exceptionally quickly.
- This site has a massive amount of members. With online dating sites, the more options, the better.
- They have a feature that lets you re-use an email and send it as many times as you like. This is good for contacting massive amounts of girls without having to deal with copy-pasting. However, some girls may be aware of this feature and be wise to the fact that you're sending them the same message you sent every other human with a pulse within 150 miles of your house. Use wisely.
- One of the best features of the site is a little box you click that indicates you think they are a match. If the girl clicks her box, you both get an alert saying the other is interested without any initial contact required by either party.
- When searching for girls, there is a highly-comprehensive filter that even lets you weed out certain body types. I personally enjoyed being able to avoid scrolling through pages of stock pigs.
Cons- The biggest drawback is a pain in the ass verification form where you have to put in a unique code for each email you send. This feature is in place to stop spammers. However, it makes mass fishing a little more difficult.
- The message interface is a bit confusing, but not too hard to figure out. Definitely not a deal breaker.
- I had some issues when I didn’t finish my profile at first and later returned to complete it. It kept telling me that the page didn’t exist. I had to delete my profile and just create a whole new one.
