Why work with us

The team you’ll join

We are trusted advisors to some of the world’s largest and most important companies, governments at all levels throughout the region, and leading not-for-profit organisations. You’ll be part of the action from the moment you start your first project.

Our team comes from a wide range of backgrounds, including senior levels of government, global technology companies, the not-for-profit sector, academia and management consulting. Together, we have a wealth of experience directly advising CEOs and senior executives, prime ministers and premiers, entrepreneurs and technologists—and we’ll help you build the skills and knowledge you’ll need to create real impact throughout your career.

The work you’ll do

We work closely with our public and private sector clients to solve challenging business and policy problems, and help them understand the most important economic, technological and social forces they face. Recently, our clients have asked us:

Who we look for

At AlphaBeta, we know that diverse teams help us achieve better results for our clients. We welcome applicants from all disciplines and backgrounds.

Our graduate program has two streams: strategy consulting and data science consulting. Both streams of graduates work closely together on project teams to creatively solve problems for our clients.

For strategy consultants, we look more for characteristics than technical skills that you can learn on the job.

Our application process will focus on assessing your:

  • problem solving ability, including structured thinking, intellectual curiosity and the ability to create direction from ambiguity
  • proactiveness and career ambitions
  • personal values
  • comfort with numbers
  • interpersonal style and ability to connect with others
  • strong written and verbal communication skills
  • interest in public policy, economics, and social impact

Our data science consultants typically take on more coding and statistical analysis.

As such, our application process for data science consultants is similar to that of strategy consultants, but with a greater focus on quantitative skills.

You’ll need to be comfortable using one or more advanced analytical tools, and understand how you might apply these tools to practical business and policy problems.

Our data scientists often have specialist qualifications, though they’re not strictly necessary—for example, you could be a political scientist or biologist with self-taught skills in Python or R.

Application process

1. Application & testing

22 March 2020

When you apply, you’ll be asked to attach a copy of your CV, cover letter and academic transcripts. We look in particular for academic achievement, evidence of leadership and teamwork, and a demonstrated interest in the work AlphaBeta does.

Once applications close, you will be sent a timed multiple choice test.

2. First round interviews

Early April 2020

This round involves a group case study, an individual test, and a one-on-one interview with a member of our consulting team.

The group case study is a great way for us to see how you think about a problem, and also allows you to experience some of the work we do.

The interview and the individual test will assess your problem solving and analytical skills. For example, you may be asked to describe a time when you overcame difficulties working in a team, and to solve a short problem-solving exercise.

3. Final round interviews

Mid-April 2020

If you are invited to final round interviews, you’ll have two one-on-one interviews, each with a senior member of our consulting team.

These interviews will include a case study on a topic relevant to our work, as well as some questions to understand your experience, motivations and values.

4. Offers

If all goes well, we make you an offer and you join our team!

Frequently asked questions

Do I need a particular degree?
We welcome applicants from all disciplines. For our data science stream, you will need to have a good understanding of one or more advanced analytical tools (i.e. programming languages such as Python or R).
What if I have already graduated?
We welcome applications from recent graduates.
Do I need to be in my final year of study to apply?
For current students, yes. To be eligible to apply, you need to be available to start work in early to mid 2021. Penultimate-year students can apply for an internship over the 2020-2021 summer vacation period. Summer internship applications will open in July — these opportunities will be advertised on our careers page closer to the date.
Will I get a chance to work on public sector projects?
Many of AlphaBeta’s clients are in the public sector, and almost all of our graduates have the opportunity to work on public policy engagements within their first year at the firm.
I applied last year and was unsuccessful. Can I apply again?
Yes, we’re open to candidates applying again for our graduate program. We strongly encourage you to take our previous feedback on board and demonstrate how you have addressed it to increase your chances of success.
Can I apply for a particular office?
You are welcome to state a preference to work in Sydney, Melbourne or Canberra. Please note only our Australian offices are recruiting for graduates at this time.
What if I have a special requirement and need help applying?
Please reach out to us at AB.Recruitment@accenture.com and we’ll do everything possible to make our process accessible to you.
Do you sponsor international applicants?
Unfortunately, we are not able to sponsor candidates at this time. You therefore need to have the right to work in Australia.
Who should I address my cover letter to?
Your letter can be addressed to the Recruitment Team, as a number of people will read your application in the initial stages.
How long is the process and when are the interviews?
Our graduate recruitment process opens for applications on 14 February and closes on 22 March. We’ll hold first round interviews in early April, and final round interviews shortly after that. We plan to extend offers in mid-April.
Can I interview by Skype, Zoom or another kind of teleconference?
If you are invited to interview, we will typically fly you to the nearest office for both rounds of interviews. If for some reason this is not possible (e.g. you are overseas), arrangements will be made for you to interview via teleconference.
When is the start date?
Our graduate program for both strategy consultants and data science consultants will commence between late January and early February 2021. However, other start dates can be arranged in some instances. In the online application, you will have the opportunity to note any special circumstances regarding your availability.

All graduates hired for our 2021 Graduate Program will join us in the transition to Accenture.
