Vera Sprothen

Vera is a business writer and editor with more than two decades of experience in journalism, most recently as a Sydney-based staff reporter with The Wall Street Journal. She has covered European politics for a fast-paced newswires service in Brussels and spent several years as a freelance foreign correspondent covering Australia for leading German newspapers and magazines, including DIE ZEIT and Wirtschaftswoche. A trained feature writer, Vera is passionate about making the complex world of economics more digestible for readers – from describing how credit reforms improve the livelihood of vanilla farmers in Tonga to investigating why growing sea sponges might help jobless Aborigines on Australia’s Palm Island. Vera holds a Masters in Economics and Politics from University of Cologne, Germany, and is a graduate of Holtzbrinck School of Journalism.
